Okay so anyone who’s familiar with all three of these works will know that these boys don’t fit all nice and neat into the character archetypes/roles of the paladins so I’ll just put who pilots what lion

Black Lion — Evan
Red Lion — Connor
Blue Lion — Michael
Green Lion — Jared
Yellow Lion — Jeremy

(I hate Sheith with a vengeance so it infuriates me to no end that the tree bros end up in Shiro and Keith’s roles but oh well)

• Jared and Connor do have a Lance/Keith-type rivalry but minus the belligerent sexual tension.  Part of it stems from them both vying for Evan’s attention/favor, since Connor’s dating him but Jared’s been his friend far longer.  
• The bonding moment thing does happen but the gay undertones are significantly reduced.  It’s more of a “I know we have this whole rivalry thing but I do think of you as a valuable teammate and friend and I actually care about your safety” than the gay-ass moment we all know and love.

• Evan was a pilot with such impressive skill that despite his myriad anxiety issues, was sent on the ill-fated Kerberos mission.  He learned how to manage his anxiety a little better during his training for said mission, and had to completely bottle it up in order to survive the Galra gladiatorial arenas.  Now it’s all mixed up with the PTSD that resulted from his year in capture, so his flashbacks/episodes are more intense than Shiro’s.  He’s actually a pretty good leader but he has to grow into the role as instead of practically being made for it.

• Jared is complicated.  If I had to give it in terms of percentages, he’s probably 65% Pidge and 35% Lance. He has a lot of the same insecurity issues as Lance in regards to his role on the team, but he does fulfill quite a bit of Pidge’s role on the team since he’s got the most tech skills.  He’s a decent strategist and a scrappy fighter but sometimes has a little too much disregard for… “collateral damage”.

• Connor is basically the Keith of the group and as such is half-galra.  He’s a lot more shaken up over this than Keith was in canon though, since he’s already thought of as a freak and this just turns that up to eleven.

• Evan broke his left arm during an arena battle but managed to win anyway, and the Galra were basically like “eh healing this is too much work let’s just take it off and put the robot arm on his left side instead”

• Jeremy is the grounding voice of reason and the closest thing this group has to Hunk.  He’s usually the first to flip out about all the crazy alien stuff and the battle plans, but he’s also really grateful to finally be in the role of a hero who can help people, and he takes this responsibility very seriously when it comes down to it.

• Michael’s probably 65% Lance and 35% Pidge.  He lacks the techy aspect of Pidge but does have the take-no-shit sense of humor.  He’s actually a very good strategist and can keep his cool in the heat of battle far better than anyone would think, despite combat not coming super naturally to him.  He and Jared make a surprisingly formidable team when put together since they’re kind of a patchwork of Lance and Pidge’s various traits.

• Connor is an excellent fighter and combat just comes naturally to him, but his brashness can make him unaware of his surroundings.  And as Jared puts it, he’s a “stab first, ask questions maybe” kind of guy (though maybe not quite that bad).

• Evan gets fuckin RIPPED from his time in the gladiatorial arena.  He basically ends up with something close to Shiro’s physique.  I toyed around with the idea of the Galra basically pulling one of those Captain America physical enhancement things on him (which would make him taller too) in addition to the robo-arm but I’m not sure about it.  Smol ripped Evan or tol ripped Evan… both have their merits but I think I like smol ripped Evan better because:
• On one hand it’d be hilarious if Evan were suddenly like 2-3 inches taller than Connor in addition to having the muscles
• But on the other hand it’d be even better if normal-height Evan could just pick up Connor like it’s nothing.
• Either way Connor about has a heart attack upon seeing him for the first time and it’s fuckin priceless

• When Evan started having to go through special training or whatever to prepare for the Kerberos mission, he ended up not being able to hang out with Jared a lot and the two of them eventually had a not-quite falling out over it.  It was at this point that Jared started to become friends with Jeremy and Michael, and so that’s how they become the Garrison Trio.

• But do not fear for Evan and Jared’s friendship because they pretty much work out all their feelings and stuff while going to get the Green Lion.  It’s very wholesome and they’re honestly just glad to see each other so there’s not a lot of animosity, mostly just some sad bitterness over how things happened.

• The tree bros weren’t dating before the Kerberos mission but Connor was internally a pining mess.  He was already wrecked enough by the fact that anxiety boy Evan was gonna have to go on a long and dangerous trip to the outer reaches of the solar system, so Evan being pronounced dead really fucked him up.
• Connor got kicked out due to disciplinary issues and that issue may or may not have involved him throwing a printer/printer equivalent at Iverson (probably because he was talking badly of Evan after the Kerberos crew was pronounced dead).
• The tree bros do eventually end up dating after Connor confesses his feelings to Evan when they get stranded on that geyser planet after getting ejected from the wormhole.

• Not really sure what everyone’s bayard weapons would be but here’s my best take on it along with any fighting style notes
• Connor - Either a spear or a sword 
• He fights like Keith, unsurprisingly.  He’s fast, strong, and his determination to win is practically unmatched.  But on the flipside, he tends to get ‘tunnel vision’ during combat, making him unaware of his surroundings and leaving him vulnerable to traps/the environment.  He uses combat to work through negative emotions.  And despite his aggressive, often frightening fighting style, he prefers not to resort to outright dirty moves unless necessary.
• Jared - Something like Lance’s energy rifle– he’s also able to turn it into different types of guns, like a sniper rifle, a pistol, hell probably even a shotgun if he wants to.
• He fights a lot like Pidge and is best at moderate to long-range fighting.  Scrappy, with a lot of pent-up aggression/bitterness that, like Connor, he works out through combat.  (he and Connor are more alike than either of them want to admit) Has the fewest qualms about taking dirty shots or using other morally questionable methods of subduing opponents (sucking them out of airlocks, shooting at joints, etc,) and has probably racked up an uncomfortably high body count in comparison to the others.  Some of it’s unavoidable and/or unintentional, but let’s just say the number’s higher than it should be.
• Evan - He’s got his energy hand thing so he doesn’t really need the bayard (plus I just have no fucking clue) but maybe some kind of staff weapon?
• He prefers to only fight if absolutely necessary, but unfortunately for this cinnamon roll fighting kinda comes with the territory of leading an interstellar war.  His fighting style tends more towards defense, only opening up when he’s about to deliver a few precise blows aimed at quickly and humanely incapacitating his opponent.  He’s got a ridiculously high pain tolerance and his stamina is a sight to behold, so he’s got no trouble waiting for the perfect time to strike.  Definitely uses the environment to his advantage and is absolutely opposed to taking dirty shots.  (He and Jared probably have a big falling out over this)
• Jeremy - A cool energy bow thing
• He’s a long-range fighter all the way.  Has impeccable aim and is a great team player who you can always count on to have your back.  His attitude towards resolving conflict through combat is relatively neutral– not a blood knight but certainly not opposed to getting his hands dirty.  That said, he’s not exactly built for fighting, so he’d rather sneak around a threat or distract it than start a confrontation as a matter of practicality.  He’s really good at thinking up creative solutions to otherwise difficult problems and is surprisingly insightful when it comes to the strengths and weaknesses of allies and opponents alike.
• Michael - A huge fucking battleaxe
• Y’all cinnamon roll this boy so much that it might seem wildly out of character at first, (and I’m guilty of it too so don’t get your hoodies in a bunch) but lemme just point out that he canonically plays zombie survival games on a regular basis.  If you thought I was gonna give him anything other than a vaguely post-apocalyptic weapon you’re dead wrong.  Despite his zeal when it comes to the aforementioned video games though, he’s actually not all that fond of fighting. Nevertheless, he recognizes that there’s a greater good at stake here, so when push comes to shove he’s got no problem kicking ass and taking names.  He prefers close-quarters combat, but the axe’s handle can extend and retract for flexible range if necessary.  Usually prefers to wield it with two hands for added power and stability.  Great at close-range crowd control since he can swing the axe in these great, sweeping arcs that can take out several enemies at once.  He greatly emphasises force over finesse since there’s not a lot of finesse to be had with a massive fucking axe, but this also means he has the least amount of formal training and can be outmatched if pitted against a more technically skilled enemy.  An axe is also more inherently lethal than the other bayard weapons for obvious reasons (sharp and unwieldy), so this puts him in a difficult situation if he’s fighting a living being instead of a Galra sentry since he’s more likely to end up killing them.  Despite these shortcomings, he is still a capable fighter who can kick some serious butt.  And obviously he teams up with Jeremy whenever possible.  Two Player Gayme all the way.

• I honestly don’t see any characters from either musical taking the place of Allura, Coran, Zarkon, etc., so I’m just gonna ignore that.  I mostly see this crossover as the BMC/DEH boys just taking the place of the paladins, along with maybe having some minor/side characters get swticharooed too (like Christine and Shay) but yeah.  Not a lot of potential there since most of the roles don’t match up all that well.

• ok I lied
• I forgot about Zoe (goddamn I love DEH but it's fucking weird having a character with my name) (and I don't even like her that much)
• She can be swapped with Matt or something I guess?
• Which means Connor takes on a bit of Pidge’s role as well with the whole searching-for-missing-family-members arc
• Which if you think about their relationship actually makes it pretty feelsy since here you’ve got these siblings with a horrible but perhaps salvageable relationship when all of a sudden one of them is pronounced dead???  ALONG WITH YOUR NOT-YET-BOYFRIEND???
• Haha sucks to be Connor
• But then he learns that Zoe might be alive after all and he’s like “wELL FUCK I GUESS I’LL GO FIND HER THEN???” because it kinda seems like a sign that they really need to patch things up
• And when Connor finally does find her he’s just so happy because he’s kind of been mulling over their past on his own and he’s realized that he was kind of a jackass.  So now he feels really remorseful about it and wants to make amends, turn over a new leaf and all, right?
• But so here he is forgetting that Zoe may not have been mulling things over in the same way
  
• And so the group finds her in some kind of galra work camp or in the gladiator cells and they’re like “holy shit zoe it’s us” and Connor’s just so happy because finally he can actually talk shit out with her
• But who is she happy to see?  Who does she run towards, crying out of happiness and relief?
• Evan.
• Evan motherfucking Hansen.
• Sure, they were on the Kerberos mission together
• But he’s her own brother
• And she barely even acknowledges him.  
• In fact, she seems even more cold and distant than before 
• probably because she’s in the mindset that “oh WOW it took getting kidnapped by a hostile alien race for my brother to start caring about me” which is a perfectly legitimate way to be viewing things but still it hurts because it’s a little too true for comfort
• You can bet your bucket that Evan and Connor get into an argument over this but it’s okay because they make up and make out
• But eventually they talk shit out and Zoe sees that Connor genuinely does want to make amends for how he treated her in the past, so she begrudgingly agrees to try patching things up between them
• Anyhow the two of them end up with a typical snarky sibling dynamic (though at first the remarks are little biting and below-the-belt shots are somewhat common)
• And if you think Zoe doesn’t take total advantage of her peanut gallery status on the comms you’re dead wrong
• Evan: Alright everyone, let’s form Voltron!
• Zoe: *painting her nails or some shit* kick its ass guys

• And you’re even dead-wronger if you think Connor and Zoe don’t have to do the invisible electric maze exercise 
• only it’s a hundred times more dysfunctional than when Lance and Keith do it in the show.
• it’s fucking priceless

• o shit this also means that Zoe’s part-galra
• SHIT DAWG
• depending on what hybrid powers keith ends up getting in season three I could totally see the murphy siblings having superpowered competitions that vary in how cool they look and how stupid they are
